Some of the matters have involved the apex and regulatory company in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, and its subsidiaries, and other high level operators in other sectors, in other areas of the economy. Some were or are very high volume civil construction disputes, maritime, international trade and intellectual property disputes.

 

The principal partner who leads this team, Prof. Andrew I. Chukwuemerie, SAN is a Fellow of the Chattered Institute of Arbitrators (UK); a Mediator and Arbitrator of the World Intellectual Property Organisation, Switzerland; a member of the London Court of International Arbitration; Lagos Court of Arbitration (Member and Panelist); ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADRs; the International Council for International Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) and a Panelist of the Lagos Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration. He is also a member of the LCIA MIACArbitration Centre, Mauritius; Advocates International; the Society for Corporate Governance, Nigeria and of the International Bar Association (Section on Business Law).

 

He is also the Studies Director of the Centre for Arbitration Studies, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He teaches (or has taught) International Commercial Arbitration, the ADRs and other subjects in the LL.B and LL.M programmes in the Nigerian University system. With respect to the study and practice of Arbitration he is the second most notable scholar-practitioner on the African continent.

 

Several years ago the firm and a few others initiated the organisation of seminars and workshops aimed at raising awareness on the benefits and needs in the Nigerian economy for recourse to Commercial Arbitration for the settlement of commercial and other disputes. The firm belongs to the International Chamber of Commerce, Arbitration Commission. It has strong relationships, and works closely, with foremost arbitral institutions like the Lagos Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration and the Centre for Arbitration Studies both of which are in Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigerian Branch as well as top grade law firms based in and outside Africa. It has a reach to the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO), a very strong and effective Third World voice in the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and related matters.
